Hurricane Ida intensifies into category 4, gains strength as it nears the northern U.S. Gulf Coast

Hurricane Ida intensified into a Category 4 storm with 140 mph winds overnight and is expected to strengthen more before reaching the northern Gulf Coast later today, the National Hurricane Center said.
